Nathiagali vs Bhurban vs Murree: Where Should Your Company Hold Its Offsite?

October 2026

Choose Bhurban for a large conference with a 100-plus plenary, Murree for a cheap one-day outing close to Islamabad, and Nathia Gali for a leadership retreat or strategy offsite of up to about thirty people that needs quiet. For decades the default answer to the question of where to take the team has been Bhurban, with Murree as the closer, cheaper fallback. Nathiagali has quietly become the third option, and for certain kinds of offsite it is now the best one. This guide compares the three fairly, because each wins in a different situation.

The short version

Bhurban is the established large-hotel conference venue: polished, predictable, well-equipped for big plenaries, and typically the most expensive. Murree is the closest and cheapest, with the most hotels, but it is crowded and the least removed from everyday life. Nathiagali sits higher and quieter, with more forest and fewer distractions, and suits retreats that prioritise thinking and walking over ballroom scale. Its venues are smaller, and that is the trade-off.

Access from Islamabad and Lahore

Murree is about 1.5 to 2 hours from Islamabad via the Murree Expressway. Bhurban is a short drive beyond Murree. Nathiagali is roughly 2.5 hours and 80 to 90 km, continuing about 35 km along the Galiyat ridge past Murree, or approached from the Abbottabad side via the Hazara Motorway, where the final climb from Abbottabad is 34 km. The extra forty-five minutes to an hour is the price of the quiet. From Lahore, every option is Islamabad plus the hill road, so budget five to six hours of driving to Nathiagali or fly to Islamabad and take a van from the airport.

Venue scale: ballroom or boardroom?

If you need a 200-seat plenary with staging and full AV, Bhurban's resort hotel was built for that and remains the safe choice. Murree's larger hotels host mid-sized events comfortably. Nathiagali's venue market is smaller: hotel function rooms, so ask the larger hotels, including the DoubleTree by Hilton that opened in 2025, what they currently offer, plus apartment-based working sessions. Be honest with yourself about format. Nathiagali is where you bring a leadership cohort, a department or a board, not the whole company at once.

Accommodation quality

Murree offers the widest range and the most uneven quality, from excellent to tired. Bhurban offers a consistent hotel standard in the classic corridor-and-room format. Nathiagali has been moving upmarket, with a branded international hotel since 2025 and a newer category that the other two largely lack: serviced apartments, where a team takes a whole furnished apartment rather than a row of rooms.

MYG Nathiagali's three-bedroom serviced apartment gives a team three furnished bedrooms, a lounge with a smart TV for presentations, a dining table for six, a fitted kitchen, free Wi-Fi, an on-site cook and room service from the restaurant floor. A one-bedroom attic apartment works for a facilitator or as a breakout room, and more units are to follow as the building completes.

Focus and distraction

Murree's Mall Road is wonderful for a family weekend and a problem for a team offsite; half the group will drift towards the shops by the second afternoon. Bhurban solves this by being self-contained — the team stays inside the resort — but the setting can feel like any large hotel anywhere. Nathiagali is quiet by nature. The only real distraction is a walk in the forest, which is usually the point of coming.

Weather and season

All three share the same mountain climate band, but Nathiagali is the highest of the three at about 2,410 metres, so it is the coolest in summer and receives the heaviest snow in winter. Peak-season crowding is worst in Murree, noticeable in Bhurban and mild in Nathiagali. For a summer offsite that needs to feel like an escape, altitude matters: Nathiagali typically sits at 15 to 25C from June to August while Islamabad and Lahore are well above 35C.

Which is easiest to reach in winter?

Murree and Bhurban are closer to Islamabad, but the Murree road is also the one that jams worst on the first snowy weekends, and in heavy spells the authorities have stopped tourist traffic entirely. Nathiagali gets more snow, but it has a second approach from Abbottabad that often reopens first after a fall. For a December to February offsite anywhere in the hills, build in a buffer day, keep the agenda flexible and confirm the road on the morning you travel.

Our road guide covers both approaches, snow closures, small cars and where to check status before you leave.

What can a team do between sessions?

This is where the three differ most. Murree offers Mall Road, shopping and the Patriata chairlift and cable car, which suits a social day out more than a strategy session. Bhurban's resort format keeps people on site, with the hotel's own facilities and golf nearby. Nathiagali's options are outdoors: a walking meeting on the flat Pipeline Track, about 4 km from Dunga Gali to Ayubia, a team climb to Mukshpuri at about 2,800 metres, sunset on the ridge road and a slow walk to St. Matthew's Church. If you want people to talk to each other rather than to the shops, that is the advantage.

Cost

Figures change too quickly to print, but the pattern is stable. Bhurban commands a premium for its resort facilities. Murree is the lowest-cost option. Nathiagali generally sits in between, and the apartment format changes the comparison: one apartment for six can work out better than six hotel rooms plus a hired meeting room, particularly midweek and for stays of several nights. Always ask for a whole-unit quote for your dates.

Connectivity and power

Grid outages are a fact of life across the Galiyat and the Murree hills, so ask every venue how it handles them before you sign. Mobile coverage is good along the main roads of all three, and patchy in the forest and valleys. MYG's serviced apartments include free Wi-Fi for guests. Wherever you go in the hills, test a video call on arrival and carry a mobile hotspot on a second network as a backup line.

Which should you choose?

Choose Bhurban for a large-format conference with staging, exhibitors or a plenary of a hundred or more. Choose Murree for a low-budget, one-day team outing where proximity matters more than quiet. Choose Nathiagali for a leadership retreat, a strategy offsite, a board meeting, a small conference of up to about thirty people, or a working week where the team needs to think.
