Corporate Retreats in Nathiagali: How to Plan a Team Offsite in the Galiyat
October 2026Nathia Gali works best for a corporate retreat of roughly six to thirty people, held midweek in spring or autumn, with the core team in a serviced apartment and one outdoor block a day. Companies from Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore and Peshawar increasingly swap the hotel ballroom for a hill station when they need to think clearly as a team, and Nathiagali, at roughly 2,410 metres and about 2.5 hours from Islamabad, is one of the best-placed options for it. This guide answers the questions a planner actually asks: when to go, how to get a team there, where everyone stays, what to do between sessions, and how to book.
The short answer
Nathiagali suits a retreat of a leadership team, a department or a board — groups of roughly six to thirty — far better than it suits a 300-person conference. Go midweek in April to May or September to October, travel together in a hired van with a hill driver, base the core team in a serviced apartment rather than scattered hotel rooms, and plan one outdoor block per day. Sessions go in the mornings, walks in the afternoons.
Why Nathiagali works for a team offsite
Distance is the first reason. At about 2.5 hours from Islamabad, 30 to 45 minutes from Abbottabad and around five to six hours of driving from Lahore, Nathiagali is far enough that people stop checking in with the office and near enough that a two-day retreat is realistic. Climate is the second: from June to August the Galiyat sits at a comfortable 15 to 25C while the plains push past 40C, so a summer retreat is a genuine relief rather than an endurance test.
The third reason is quiet. Murree, 35 km back along the ridge, is the busier, more commercial hill station. Nathiagali is built around walking and forest, with a small bazaar and no nightlife to compete with a conversation. And connectivity is workable: the main mobile networks cover the main road and the bazaar, and serviced accommodation increasingly includes Wi-Fi, so a retreat no longer has to mean going dark. Signal still drops in the forest and valleys, which some teams count as a feature.
When to schedule a retreat
The best windows are April to May and September to October. The weather is clear and mild, trails are dry, accommodation is easy to secure and weekdays are calm. June to August is peak season: perfectly workable for a retreat, but book well ahead and choose Tuesday to Thursday to avoid weekend traffic on the Murree road. The monsoon overlaps July to September, so keep any outdoor block in those months flexible.
A winter retreat between December and February is memorable — the Galiyat under heavy snow is unlike anywhere else within reach of the capital — but it demands buffer time. Roads can close temporarily after heavy snowfall, so build in a spare half-day and a flexible agenda, confirm conditions before departure and ask every venue how it handles the cold and power cuts.
Our road guide explains winter closures, which approach reopens first and where to check before you leave.

From Islamabad, take the Murree Expressway to Murree and continue along the Galiyat road on the ridge to Nathiagali, about 80 to 90 km in all. Allow 2.5 hours. If part of the team is coming from Peshawar or Abbottabad, the Hazara Motorway to Abbottabad and then the Galiyat road is the natural alternative, and the two groups can meet in Nathiagali for lunch. Lahore teams either drive the M2 to Islamabad and continue up, or fly to Islamabad and take a van from the airport, roughly three hours from Nathiagali.
Hire one or two coasters or vans with drivers who know the hill roads rather than convoying private cars. Parking near the bazaar is limited in season, the roads are narrow and winding, and a team that travels together arrives together. Leave the city by 8 am and you will be in Nathiagali for lunch with the whole afternoon ahead of you.
Where a team stays: hotel rooms or a serviced apartment?
Hotel rooms scatter a team along a corridor, and the actual work happens in a meeting room booked for set hours. A serviced apartment does the opposite. The lounge and dining table become the team's own working room, available at seven in the morning or eleven at night, with the bedrooms opening off it. Conversations continue over breakfast instead of restarting at nine.
MYG Nathiagali's three-bedroom serviced apartment is set up for exactly this. It has three furnished bedrooms and 3.5 washrooms, a lounge with a wall-mounted smart TV that takes a laptop for slides, a dining table for six that works as a boardroom table, a fitted kitchen, free Wi-Fi, an on-site cook and room service from the building's restaurant floor. It suits a leadership team of up to six, and the one-bedroom attic apartment works for a founder, a facilitator or a second breakout space. More units are to follow as the building completes, so ask what is open for your dates if your group is larger.
See the serviced apartments →One honest note: MYG does not have a formal conference hall. For a plenary of twenty or more, ask the larger hotels in the area about function space; the DoubleTree by Hilton Nathiagali, which opened in 2025, is the clearest sign of how the local hospitality market has grown. A workable pattern is a hotel meeting room for the plenary with apartment accommodation for the core group, who hold their working sessions in the apartment.
Is a corporate retreat in Nathia Gali practical for a board or small conference?
For a board meeting or leadership group of six to eight, yes: the apartment's dining table is the boardroom and the meeting can run as late as it needs to. For eight to thirty, split the format, with plenary sessions in a hotel function room and working groups in apartments. Bring your own HDMI and USB-C adapters and a presentation clicker, test the Wi-Fi with a real video call the evening before, carry a mobile hotspot on a second network, and print anything you need in Islamabad or Abbottabad before you come up. For a hundred or more with staging and exhibitors, Bhurban is the more realistic venue.

Day one: arrive for lunch, then run the main session from about 2 pm to 5 pm while everyone is fresh from the drive. Break for a sunset walk into the bazaar or through the pines towards Lalazar, then dinner together, either from the restaurant floor or cooked in the apartment. Keep the evening unstructured; the best retreat conversations tend to happen after the agenda ends.
Day two: start with a walking meeting on the Pipeline Track, a flat, shaded trail of about 4 km from Dunga Gali to Ayubia that takes an hour to ninety minutes one way. Hold the second session over a late breakfast and through the morning, wrap up with decisions and owners before lunch, and leave by 2 pm to be back in Islamabad for the evening. If you have a third day, the Mukshpuri hike from Dunga Gali, roughly 3 to 4 km and two to three hours up to a summit at about 2,800 metres, makes a genuine shared achievement.
Team-building that does not feel forced
The Galiyat does the team-building for you if you let it. The Pipeline Track works as a walking meeting for any fitness level. The Mukshpuri summit is a real accomplishment with a view to match. A cook-together evening in an apartment kitchen beats any indoor exercise, and a slow walk to St. Matthew's Church, the cedar church built in 1914, gives a quiet end to the day.
Budget notes and what to confirm
The main cost lines are transport, accommodation, meals, a facilitator if you use one, and a single activity. A whole apartment can compare well with several hotel rooms plus a hired meeting room, so ask for a whole-unit quote for your dates. Before confirming anywhere in the hills, check five things: Wi-Fi suitable for video calls, what happens during grid outages, late check-in if the drive runs long, a meal plan with the cook, and where your vehicles will park.
